On jan 14th I made reservations online at http://staydesertpalmsinn.com/ for thursday nite before the San Felipe 250. I used my credit card to confirm the room and two days later I received 2 phishing emails, both in spanish to my email addy asking me to provide personal info to confirm my reservation. Both of these phishing attemps were worded identically but sent from different addies. I confirmed with my bank that my card had already been charged (once, for the correct amount) and needed no further info to confirm my reservation. The next day I received an email with the following info:
Hotel address
Street
NOTE: Hotel under new management / Old sign and name Baja Palms will still be up please be aware.
KM 182 Highway 5
City, ST Zip
San Felipe,
Country
MEXICO
Hotel Phone # 011 526 865760276

I saved it in my Blackberry in case there was an issue when I arrived. There was an issue but unfortunately I got a new Blackberry in the mean time. The problem was, when I went to check in, the man I assumed to be the manager told me that he did not have a reservation for me. He also stated that they did not have a website and sorry, the place was full. He suggested that maybe I had the wrong place. The K182 marker is right in in front of the motel sign. By the time I got in touch with my wife at home and had her fwd the email to me I had already secured other lodging so argueing with the propriter would have been a waste of time. So beware!

On a further note, friends did stay there during the race weekend and said that during their 4 day stay it appeared that at no time did a maid enter their room. They had to ask for clean towels and were pretty much ignored when they did ask. Also, while there the night before the race, someone emptied everything out of their cooler in the bed of there truck except the mustard leaving them to scramble for lunches on race morning.

Of course, my bank is disputing the charges and giving me a refund.
