Plan ahead your stops in RV campgrounds with other people around - or in a hotel. Away from water hotels can be 25 bucks or so. Don't camp at the curb or beach in the middle of nowhere, and you'll be alright. Same applies to the most US places, I guess.

Driving at night - nobody is going to shoot at the moving vehicle, but the road is skinny and winding, and "Topez" (speed bumps) are hard to notice. Besides, they drive like kamikaze. Left turn signal means 2 different things - either he turns left, or lets you pass him by. You'd better avoid left turns too, because he won't know which one of two things you're up to.
