Thanks again for your great info on driving the Baja highway. I
drove to and from Bahia de los Angeles last 9/1 and 9/7 and felt
much more comfortable about the trip (my first to Mexico)
thanks to your posted details.
I'd like to contribute:
There is another checkpoint located where the road branches to
Bahia de los Angeles. It appears to be stopping traffic in all
directions. It is staffed by the Army; we were searched both
coming and going. The Pemex station at that junction is
defunct, but there was a pickup truck with some industrious
locals selling marked-up unleaded from barrels (we didn't even
see them at first; the army fellows directed us to them).
We did not have trouble with any vados. I don't know if they've
been filled or if we were just lucky!
The road to LA Bay is in pretty decent shape-- someone said it
is new, but that doesn't mean it's smooth. More like oily
gravel. Only the final section of road appears to be
unreplaced. Unleaded and diesel were available in limited
quantities at LA Bay.
