Email
Someone emailed me an attachment, now what?
Mutt, the recommended MUA, handles attachments rather expediently.
There are two ways to begin handling attachments:
- While reading a message that includes an attachment, there will be an
indicator in the message such as
[-- Attachment #1 --]
notifying you of its presence.
Enter the letter Q to display a command line at the
bottom of the terminal which looks like this: Command:
At the command line, enter the letter V . This will
display the list of attachments to the message.
[example 1]
Continue with step 3.
- While viewing the message headers, select the message which includes an
attachment by using the arrow keys (or associated vi keys) to align the indicator
-> with the message.
[example 2]
Enter the letter V . This will
display the list of attachments to the message.

Continue with step 3.
- Use the arrow keys (or associated vi keys) to align the indicator
-> with the attachment you wish to select.
Enter the letter S . You will see this option listed
in the menu above as s:Save .
[example 1]
At the bottom of the terminal you will see the message
Save to file: along with the name of the file
that is attached to the message.
Change the name of the file if necessary to exclude
MS Windowisms such as blank spaces by using the backspace key. It is probably best
to maintain the extension, i.e., .pdf, .dvi, .xls

Press Enter to save the file.
Press Q to quit the screen.

It's a graphic file, e.g., jpg, gif, png.
