Grader

What is Grader and how do I use it?

Grader is a locally produced gradebook program. It has a comprehensive help structure that is accessed from the Main Menu as follows:

Main Menu

Type '?' for online help.
Type '??' for expanded online help.
The following describes the use of the program along with the associated program baselist:

  1. Create a separate directory for each class for which you would like to track grades.
  2. Copy the class roster you received via email into this directory.
  3. Edit the class roster and remove unnecessary lines such as the email header lines and the lines which look like this:

    MATH003 002 TR 6:10-7:30PM SPR 2339 01S

Note:  You should only have lines which begin with a name and end with a student number.
  4. Execute baselist file.   Where file is the name of the edited file you created above.
  5. You will be asked several questions as follows:

                UCR GRADER Filter Program

    Please enter class name:  Math003
    Please enter instructor's name:  Snodgrass

          Class: Math003
        Instructor: Snodgrass

    Is this correct? (N/y)

After you have entered correct information, enter y.   You will have two additional files in this directory:

    comment.dat and names.dat

  6. Now, just execute grader in this directory.

I received a roster from systems, do I have to manually enter all those names into grader?

No, see the instructions above.

But I'm using MS Windows, now what?

Well, here are versions of the programs compiled for MS operating systems.
