Groupoidfest 2008 will be held this coming Fall at the University of
California, Riverside, on the weekend of November 22-23, 2008.
Most participants will probably arrive on Friday (November 21) and leave on Sunday (November 23) in the
afternoon.
Talks will be scheduled for Saturday and Sunday morning.
As has been the tradition, the conference budget of $0 will be evenly split among
all participants.
The weather is expected to be nice. Winter has not arrived yet in Riverside. In fact, Fall
has not really arrived yet either. The forecast for the weekend is mostly Sunny, with
highs around 82, lows around 47, and only a slight chance of rain on Saturday. Bring T-shirts!

Schedule of Talks and Abstracts:
Groupoidfest talks will commence on the morning of Saturday, November 22, and end at around 1 pm on
Sunday, November 23.
There will be a Gfest dinner on Saturday evening. We will go somewhere nice and affordable - Tio's Tacos - rather than fancy.
Note: On Friday, November 21, at 3:00 pm, there will be a special colloquium talk at the UC Riverside math
department, given by Alan Weinstein from UC Berkeley. All Gfest participants are invited!
At 6:30 pm on Friday we will be going out for a colloquium dinner, and Gfest participants are welcome to join (at their
own expense). Reservations for the dinner are required by November 14. We will be going
to Mario's Place,
an Italian restaurant located at historic downtown Riverside.
It is possible to arrive by public transportation from the Los Angeles area. One option is to take the
Foothill Transit Silver Streak (Eastbound)
to the Montclair Trans Center. From there take the RTA
Bus Route 204 to the UC Riverside Campus (via downtown Riverside).
Another option is taking the Metrolink Riverside line
to downtown Riverside, and then the RTA
Bus Route 1 to the UC Riverside Campus.
Airports:
There are several major airports serving the greater L.A. area which you may want to consider. Ontario airport is the most convenient,
offering direct flights to many cities, including hubs of most major airlines.
Ontario International Airport (ONT) - 20 miles, 25 - 50 minutes*
John Wayne International Airport (SNA) - 45 miles, 1 - 1.5 hours*
Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) - 70 miles, 1.5 - 2 hours*
Another option is Palm Springs. For example, there are direct flights to Palm Springs from
Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver.
Palm Springs International Airport (PSP) - 55 miles, 1 - 1.5 hours*
*depending on traffic.
Shuttles:
A shuttle from ONT to Riverside is about $35 for 1 person one way, and about $10 for any additional person.
From LAX or SNA to Riverside a shuttle is about $65 for 1 person one way, and about $10 for any additional person.

Accommodation:
The On-Campus International Residence Center (IRC) is operated
by the UCR Extension Center and offers hotel-like rooms for very affordable rates ($50 for a single room, $25 per person in a shared room).
Their availability is limited, so rooms should be reserved well in advance.
Please inform the organizer as soon as possible if you wish to stay at the IRC.
Parking at the UCR extension center (where the IRC rooms are located) is available,
and requires a parking permit which costs $5/day. Parking on Everton, the street behind the extension center, is free.
