From Fall 1994 to Spring 2000, I completed a Ph.D. degree in Mathematics at the University of California, Irvine under the supervision of Bernard Russo.  During 2000-1, I was a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics at California State University San Marcos.  I spent 2001-4 as a National Science Foundation VIGRE Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Mathematics at Indiana University Bloomington, where my postdoctoral mentor was Hari Bercovici.  I was hired last year as a Visiting Assistant Professor in the UCR Mathematics Department.  During Fall Quarter 2005, I was a Member of the Institute for Mathematics and Applications at the University of Minnesota, where I participated in the Thematic Year in Imaging.

Research

My Ph.D. thesis addressed composition operators on holomorphic function spaces in several complex variables.  Since then I have become interested in other areas of analysis, such as free probability, harmonic analysis, and mathematical physics, and I have also been exploring some applications of these topics, such as time-frequency analysis, astronomical imaging, and quantum information theory.  There are many important unsolved problems in these areas, among others.

If you are interested in a more detailed description of my research agenda as of November 2005, please feel free to see my research description (in .pdf format) by clicking here.

If you are an undergraduate or graduate student, I welcome you to contact me about becoming involved in research projects involving open mathematical questions.  I am also happy to give you information on potential mentors who might be doing other research that you might be interested in.

Everyone, including undergraduate and graduate students, is encouraged to attend any of the UCR Mathematics Department Seminars and Colloquia in order to hear about new discoveries in mathematics and its applications.  These meetings usually occur once per week at on a set time and day, and they feature speakers from other universities as well as UCR faculty and students.  Come join us!  Don't be intimidated if you find that you are unable to follow what is going on.  It is impossible even for mathematicians to understand every talk.

Teaching

During Fall Quarter 2006, I am teaching Math 9A (First quarter Calculus) and Math 149A (First quarter Probability).

My office hours during Fall Quarter 2006 are MW 9:30-10:30am; however, please feel free to call or email me if you wish to see me at other times in case you are unable to attend those office hours. If you are are or are not a UCR student and would like to view my teaching materials, simply login to www.ilearn.ucr.edu/webapps/login as a guest and search for me by name or by "MATH 9A" or "MATH 9C". My course materials are open to everyone and comments are welcome, especially derogatory ones.
