    Fishing Fleets

Most sport fishing from La Paz takes place either in La Paz Bay or in the Gulf of California off Punta Arenas. Transportation from/to the hotels and RV parks can be provided. For fishing from the Las Arenas area, van service is provided - about a 45 minute ride. Other areas may be fished, but the access is more difficult and time-consuming.

Check the main hotels for a fishing fleet desk. They can make arrangements for a "panga" (smallest boat) or a larger day boat (24 to 32 feet in length) complete with skipper and/or helper. Some of the major operators are:

  • "Dorado Velez Fleet" - Desk at the Los Arcos Hotel
Phone number: (La Paz) 2-27-44, Ext. 608

  • "Mosquito Fishing Fleet" - Desk at the Howard Johnson's Hotel (formerly the La Concha)
      Phone numbers: (La Paz) 2-65-44
                      (U.S.) (310) 479-0234

  • David Jones - Fishing Isla Cerralvo and Punta Arenas
Vans depart in the morning for Punta Arenas. Package arrangements are available (meals, lodging and travel) - the hotel accomodations are made with the Los Arcos Hotel. Some travel agents in Southern California can book with this group. Note that contact can be made via e-mail.

    Launching Ramps

There are a number of launching ramps in the La Paz area for those bringing their own boats:

  • Aquamarina RV Park (commercial) - South end of La Paz

May 1998: This ramp has been doubled in width in order to haul out trimarans. The new facility is able to handle very large boats.

  • Marina de La Paz (commercial) - Center of La Paz

  • Marina Palmira (commercial) - North end of La Paz

  • Public ramp (rough) just north of Pichilingue (Located on the north side of the bay just to the north of the ferry terminal buildings at Pichilingue. Follow the dirt road around the small bay.)

Note: As of summer 1996, there is a new marina under construction on the south side of this bay. They may eventually have a ramp available.
