addendum to my previous post: There are still quite a few "gotcha" vados on the Puertocitos road especially between Matomi and Puertocitos.

:
: Puertocitos road is in great shape. It is paved to about 8 miles before the Papa Fernandez turn off. I've been told that it is pretty much graded after that to Ranch Grande.

:
: : A couple of friends and I are planning an October trip down the Baja. Been there probably about 20-25 times but not for the past 4 years. We plan to cross at Mexicali and go south from San Felipe on the Puertocitos road. Probably spend some time at Bay of LA, Bahio de los Muertes, Mulege, and Loreto. We take Kayaks and bikes. Camp on the beaches and just relax for a few weeks. My question is to anyone...How is the safety on the Baja? I don't mind the Federale Checkpoints but am concerned about the drug runners and drug battles. Since we stay on beaches (usually isolated ones), is safety a concern?? Another question is... How is the Puertocitos Road now? It was pretty narly several years ago. Kiitos for your answers!!
