Thank you for the response. Sounds like a great way to get down the Baja.

: : I'm planning to visit Baja after not being there for 5 years. Wondering how the travel is from Mexicali-san felipe-puertocitos-hwy 1-bay of LA-loreto-mulege. Is it safe to travel? How is the road? Is Coco's corner still thriving? thank you for the information. dennis

: I was last over this entire route one year ago, but others have been posting regular updates on another Baja forum:

: Mexicali to San Felipe, 125 miles: all 'new-style', wide, 2 and 4 lane highway except for about a 3 mile section just south of La Ventana (just over halfway to San Felipe), which they are working on now. Fast highway, outside of populated areas.

: San Felipe to Puertecitos entrance road, 51 miles: same old style, narrow paved road with sudden, steep dips (vados), but repairs to some made and holes filled. Slow highway.

: Puertecitos to Papa Fernandez', Bahia San Luis Gonzaga, 43 miles: All paved, new style wide highway, comes to an end just before Papa's road. Fast highway, but watch for fallen rocks through the cuts in the mountains.

: Gonzaga Bay to Coco's Corner, 23 miles: Same old graded dirt road, washboard, 2WD is fine, but trailers, motorhomes, and low cars should avoid unless driven real slow.

: Coco was there a year ago and quite happy... recent reports say he has been back to Ensenada sometimes to see doctor.

: Coco's Corner to Hwy. 1 (Laguna Chapala, 13 miles: Graded dirt road, but rocky as it cuts through mountain, same advice as for previous section.
