LORD---The WORD and The Sabbath
John 1:1 (English-NIV)
- In the beginning was the Word(Jesus),
and the Word was with
God, and the Word was God,
John 5:1--18 (English-NIV)
- Some time later, Jesus went up to Jerusalem for a feast of the
Jews.
- Now there is in Jerusalem near the Sheep Gate a pool,
which in Aramaic is called Bethesda
[1]
and which is surrounded by five covered colonnades.
- Here a great number of disabled people used to lie--the blind,
the lame, the paralyzed--and they waited for the moving of the
waters.
- From time to time an angel of the Lord would
come down and stir up the
waters, the first one into the pool after each such
disturbance would be cured of
whatever diseace he had.
- One who was there had been an invalid for thirty-eight years.
- When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in
this condition for a long time, he asked him,
"Do you want to get well?"
- "Sir," the invalid replied,
"I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred.
While I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me."
- Then Jesus said to him, "Get up! Pick up your mat and walk."
- At once the man was cured; he picked up his mat and walked.
The day on which this took place was a Sabbath,
- and so the Jews said to the man who had been healed,
"It is the Sabbath; the law forbids you to carry your mat."
- But he replied, "The man who made me well said to me,
`Pick up your mat and walk.'"
- So they asked him, "Who is this fellow who told you to pick it
up and walk?"
- The man who was healed had no idea who it was, for Jesus had
slipped away into the crowd that was there.
- Later Jesus found him at the temple and said to him, "See, you
are well again. Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you."
- The man went away and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had
made him well.
- So, because Jesus was doing these things on the Sabbath, the Jews
persecuted him.
- Jesus said to them, "My Father is always at his work to this very
day, and I, too, am working."
- For this reason the Jews tried all the harder to kill him; not
only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own
Father, making himself equal with God.
John 5:39--40 (English-NIV)
- 39
- You diligently study
the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about me,
- 40
- yet you refuse to come to me to have life.
Mark 7:13 (English-NIV)
- 13
- Thus you nullify the word of God by your
tradition that you have handed down.
And you many things like that.
Jesus Showed Himself As The WORD
John 10:35--36 (English-NIV)
- 35
- If he called them 'gods', to whom
The Word(Jesus) of God
came--and the scripture cannot be broken--
- 36
- what about the one whom the Father set apart as
his very own and sent into the world?
Why then do you accuse me of blasphemy because I said,
'I am God's Son'?
The WORD Of God Is Living And Active, Judge The Thoughts
And The Atitudes Of The Heart
Hebrew 4:1--13 (English-NIV)
- 1
- Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still
stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen
short of it.
- 2
- For we also have had the gospel preached to us,
just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them,
because those who heard did not combine it with faith.
- 3
- Now we who have believed enter that rest, just as God has
said, "So I declared on oath in my anger, `They shall never enter my
rest.'"
And yet his work has been finished since the creation of the world.
- 4
- For somewhere he has spoken about the seventh day in these
words: "And on the seventh day God rested from all his work."
- 5
- And again in the passage above he says, "They shall never
enter my rest."
- 6
- It still remains that some will enter that rest, and those
who formerly had the gospel preached to them did not go in, because
of their disobedience.
- 7
- Therefore God again set a certain day, calling it Today,
when a long time later he spoke through David, as was said before:
"Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts."
- 8
- For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken
later about another day.
- 9
- There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God;
- 10
- for anyone who enters God's rest also rests from his own
work, just as God did from his.
- 11
- Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest,
so that no one will fall by following their example of disobedience.
- 12
- For The Word of God(Jesus) is
living and active. Sharper
than any double-edged sword, (no 'it' in the Greek here, see also
KJV)penetrates
even to dividing soul
and spirit, joints and marrow; (no 'it' in the Greek here)judges
the
thoughts and attitudes
of the heart.
- 13
- Nothing in all creation is hidden from
His(the Greek Bible shows here that The Word of God
has a personality)
sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of
Him, with whom to us is
The Word(this is original meaning in the Greek text).
