The reason to believe in quantum mechanics is that:

1. We have equations describing how these "matter waves" vibrate.

2. We can use them to predict what we see in hundreds of experiments.

3. The predictions are correct.

Of course, you should learn the details yourself to be convinced!
It takes a lot of time, but it's also lots of fun.
