Textbook: Vector Calculus,
by J. E. Marsden and A. J. Tromba, 5th edition.
Quizzes: roughly every other week. 15min.
Homework: assigned at each lecture, collected every monday (except
1/9).
Exams: There will be a midterm exam around 5th week. The date will be
announced 2 weeks in advance. The final exam will be 03/20/2006
3 to 6 p.m. No make up exams. An extra date for the exams can be
granted only in the event of a documented medical situation or family
emergency, the observance of a religious holiday, or if you have three
or more final exams on the same day. Timely contact the instructor.
All the exams are closed notes and books, no calculators allowed.
Grading: The final grade is determined by
50% of the final exam
30% of the midterm exam
20% of quizzes and homework
The topics of this course include Euclidian
geometry, matrices and linear functions, determinants, partial
derivatives, directional derivatives, Jacobians, gradients, chain rule,
and Taylor's theorem for several variables.
Your weekly workload is assumed to be at least eight
hours beyond class attendance.
